Sumitomo Electric Information Systems is creating manuals for engineers in-house and was preparing to translate the manuals for overseas expansion. With the theme of "creating manuals in easy-to-translate Japanese," they were considering how to develop the manuals.
We received an inquiry from you with the desire to "improve Japanese manuals to make them easier to translate by attending seminars conducted by professionals who specialize in manual creation." For example, there were questions such as, "What points should be improved to make the Japanese easier to translate?" "Is the style of the manual appropriate?" "What should we do moving forward?" "Is there a better way to present this?"

We provided the actual manual and submitted the evaluation report. Through multiple meetings, we narrowed down the theme of the training session.
●Content of the Workshop
・Use the customer's actual manual as training material
Based on the results of the manual analysis, lectures will be conducted with a focus on points such as "concise expressions," "clarifying the subject," and "improving redundant expressions," while incorporating exercises to create easily translatable Japanese sentences.
・In the section "How to Create a Table of Contents," we will discuss chapter headings (chapters, sections, items) and explore improvement proposals in a workshop format.

Since the texts and exercises were structured around the manuals of our own products, it became easier to grasp the issues, providing a good opportunity to review the manuals objectively. I was able to newly recognize the importance of organizing information and weighting. The lecture was conducted in a format that compared bad examples with good examples, which broadened my awareness of the problem areas. I was impressed that a manual could be created that is easy to understand even without product knowledge. I once again felt the importance of documentation skills, so the content I learned this time seems applicable beyond just manual creation. It was very meaningful content.
