For many years, humans have exploited the environment and abused what it has provided us. We have even put the environment in danger.

We are deeply indebted to nature, and it is a well-known fact that we must do our utmost to protect it. The mission of Charm Industrial, to "permanently remove CO₂ from the atmosphere," is precisely where this lies.
The Jamstack community is also committed to using technology in a more sustainable way. Therefore, the Bejamas team jumped at the opportunity to partner with Charm Industrial, which aims to raise awareness and encourage more customers to purchase carbon removal subscriptions.
1. Background of Charm Industrial
In 2018, a group of engineers came together to tackle the difficult yet important challenge of reversing generations of environmental destruction through the complete removal of CO₂.
Peter Reinhardt, Kelly Hering, and Shaun Meehan founded Charm Industrial in San Francisco.
Shall we touch on the science behind that a little?
Leveraging my knowledge as an engineer, I took on the challenge of converting biomass, which is considered waste, into bio-oil through a process called fast pyrolysis.
After being converted to bio-oil, it can be injected deep underground as negative emissions, or reformed to produce green hydrogen, which can be used as fuel or industrial chemicals.
As an example, this technology contributed to a reduction of 1000 tons of CO₂ for Shopify.
However, they had another challenge. That was to find a better way to promote the product and sell it to customers.
2. Promoting CO₂ Removal with Jamstack
When their team contacted us seeking a clean, reliable, and user-friendly website that enables online purchases, we could clearly envision how Jamstack could contribute.
Our team, who agrees with the mission of "Creating a better world for the future," has started working on the following tasks to fulfill their requests.
- Building a New Homepage
- Automation of the Payment Process
- Design changes to promote corporate biomass purchasing
3. Building the Jamstack Website for Charm Industrial
The main point of their website had to be a light-resistant and eye-catching design that provides information to customers and encourages product purchases.
Therefore, we created a static site using the Jamstack approach, which is a headless CMS, that is visually appealing and contains all the necessary information for those considering a purchase from Charm Industrial.
3-1 Stack
Our stack includes amazing tools such as the following.
3-1-1 Gatsby.js
We chose Gatsby for its simplicity. This allowed us to combine ubiquitous features using React, GraphQL, and Webpack, enabling us to build a static website without pain or effort.
3-1-2 STORYBLOCK CMS
To create a site that is as sustainable as possible, we wanted to build a fast site using the most evidence-based methods, so we used Storyblok as our headless content management system. By adopting Storyblok, the Charm team was able to make quick edits without the need for code.
3-1-3 TailwindCSS
TailwindCSS is a CSS framework that emphasizes practicality and aesthetics. In the case of Charm, it was essential to have a cohesive color palette and typography to create an attractive site. Additionally, by keeping the CSS bundle as small as possible, we also achieve a common goal of being environmentally friendly.
The request was simple, focusing on simplification and automation, with time being the top priority. Next, it will be the automation of the payment process.
4. Automation of the Payment Process
Here, we will introduce what can be considered the most important part of our work with Charm Industrial. They were processing purchases manually, which is not realistic for a business with an ambitious goal of reaching an ARR of one million dollars.
Our team quickly began implementing a reliable and fast automated payment system using Stripe. This not only simplified the purchasing process for our customers but also increased their confidence in making purchases on the website, achieving our goal of eliminating all manual processes that were present in previous payment methods.
Damian Rogulski, the developer of Frontlead, says the following.
Stripe has a feature called Stripe Checkout that allows you to create a checkout with a very short development time and with minimal effort. It also includes an excellent dashboard with many options for setting up payments, as well as a powerful admin dashboard for managing all payment transactions.

4-1 Revamping Design to Enhance Corporate Willingness to Purchase Biomass
As a result, we were able to deliver a sophisticated website that not only embodies beauty and speed but also functionality.
Comment from Ilya Volodarsky of Charm Industrial.
We collaborated with Bejamas to build the new website for Charm Industrial, enabling consumers and small businesses to create monthly plans for carbon removal. Their team was enjoyable to work with, communication was clear, and they were passionate about Charm's mission. The results are well reflected in the site. Not only did they deliver the new site on time, but it was also remarkably stable and featured an excellent UX. Over the course of a few months, we were able to achieve incredible rapid iterations, improving all functionalities and shipping on time.

5. Contribution to Charm Industrial's Mission
Protecting the Earth is one of Bejamas' fundamental values, and this project was very close to our philosophy.
We are pleased to have successfully created this site as a way to promote sustainability through the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and to be a part of their mission.
We are proud to have taken action and made it possible to subscribe to CO₂ removal services.
