Inquiry from Rosetta Stone Japan

We have received requests from Rosetta Stone Japan for the localization of English learning materials, including UI, messages, user guides, and promotional content.

The Japanese version was translated as one of the languages at our headquarters in the United States, but in order to expand into the Japanese market, we were approached with the idea that natural expressions are needed for Japanese learners to study more smoothly.

Solutions of Human Science

We have established a system with a dedicated project manager (1), translators (3), and a reviewer (1) to ensure consistency in translation style within a single material and to accommodate urgent requests.

The most important thing is the expression in Japanese after translation.
We proceed with work limited to translators who are experienced in consumer product translation and excel in soft writing styles. We avoid literal translations and, when necessary, provide paraphrasing to ensure clarity in Japanese.
For example, while an expression may be concise in English, it can sometimes be insufficiently explanatory for Japanese learners, so we strive to provide thorough explanations. However, we must avoid excessive paraphrasing that strays from the original meaning or becomes unsuitable for the learning context.
To achieve this, we refer to comments from the original English text creators at Rosetta Stone and communicate the intent of the translation to our clients.
Additionally, to deepen our understanding of Rosetta Stone's materials, we participate in product study sessions when representatives from the U.S. headquarters visit Japan.

Customer Feedback

rosettastone_package

Since we requested localization projects for web promotion content in 2008, we have been working together for five years. Initially, we asked for translations of content as well as user guides, but now we mainly request UI and message translations for educational materials.
When there are software modifications from the U.S. headquarters, we receive translation requests on a short deadline, but it has been very helpful that you adjust the timeline from the estimate to delivery according to our desired deadline.
When there are questions about the translation content, I feel reassured because the translation coordinator, who serves as the contact point for Human Science, quickly confirms any inquiries.
Since last year, we have also requested DTP editing work for brochures, and we appreciate your smooth handling of this as well.

From Human Science representatives

In the localization of UI and messages for learning materials, there are parts where clear expressions are necessary to prevent learners from getting confused with the operations, and there are also cases where a questioning tone is required in the message expressions.
Depending on the type of materials and the target learners, it is necessary to change the expression methods, which can sometimes feel challenging, but we will strive to meet your desired quality.

For urgent projects, we will enhance efficiency through resource adjustments and internal collaboration to meet your desired deadlines.
