Background

In 1907, Nippon Steel Corporation was established in Muroran, Hokkaido, through a joint venture between three companies: overseas (Armstrong Whitworth and Vickers in the UK) and Japan (Hokkaido Coal and Steamship Company).

Since our founding, we have pursued "manufacturing" and "value creation," and we aim to be a company that "creates change with innovative technology and contributes to the development of society" through our industrial machinery business, which handles a variety of machine products, and our materials and energy business for the energy industry.

The Resin Machinery Division, which has introduced the MTrans Team, plays a key role in the world's number one resin machinery product complex, globally deploying large granulators, twin-screw kneaders, and film and sheet manufacturing equipment. The export ratio exceeds 60%, and daily operations involve contract work and the exchange of technical documents with overseas clients.

Challenges Before Implementation

Translating documents such as contracts and machine specifications takes time

In this division, which has a high ratio of overseas sales, it is essential to handle dozens of pages of English documents, and a significant amount of resources are spent on the translation work, in addition to the challenges of terminology consistency. The introduction of translation tools was inevitable for improving operational efficiency and managing terminology consistency.

Information Leakage Security Issues

Since there was no translation system implemented by the company, each individual relied on free tools like Google Translate. However, the possibility of information leakage with those tools is not zero, and from a security perspective, the company has officially decided to implement a tool.

Reasons for Choosing Human Science

Reduced implementation costs and easy to use without any character limits on translations

We compared three products, including the MTrans Team, when selecting automatic translation software.

In the trial, the translation accuracy was evaluated as difficult to distinguish between the two, so we focused on cost-effectiveness. We compared the initial implementation costs and pricing structures of the product in its first year, and found that the implementation costs were relatively lower compared to other products, and the lack of character limits for translations was the deciding factor in choosing to implement the "MTrans Team".

We are currently starting with 100 users and are considering future expansion.

Implementation Effects

Reduction of resources allocated to translation work

We have received positive feedback from within the company, stating that "the efficiency of operations, including translation, has improved due to the introduction of the software." There were often cases where the meaning of the translations from free translation software was unclear, requiring verification work, but the MTrans Team has made it possible to eliminate that hassle.

Additionally, dictionaries that were individually owned and managed can now be shared and visualized for all users through the MTrans Team's Company Phrase feature.

The UI and specifications are easy to understand, and we are receiving many additional user registration requests.
