DOCOMO Technology, Inc. (hereinafter referred to as DOCOMO Technology, abbreviated) is responsible for the development of mobile terminals and devices, wireless equipment, core network equipment, and maintenance system software that support communication services of the DOCOMO Group.
They actively promote the efficiency of development work and work style reform, and have formed a cross-departmental task force for business improvement to plan and implement improvement efforts every year.
Mr. Yoshioka, a member of the task force, was considering developing a manual for high-performing employees as part of work style reform, in order to smoothly transfer specialized and personalized tasks to other employees.
However,
- It is difficult to create manuals while working on regular tasks, so I would like to do it in a separate environment from my regular work.
- It is difficult for participants to review the contents of the manual among themselves because each department is performing its own tasks.

You had a challenge.
In the meantime, in June 2018, you visited our company's website and made an inquiry.
To realize the client's desire to have all participants complete the business manual during the several days of the training camp, we proposed a pre-camp business organization phase.
In business manuals, instead of writing the manual right away, it is more efficient to first organize your own work and knowledge in a visible form.
During the 4-day training camp, we conducted practical exercises to turn organized tasks into manuals from the reader's perspective.

The manual creation boot camp was our first attempt at our company, but at the end of the boot camp, about 80% of the participants were able to complete the manual.

To be honest, I was worried about how much support we could receive from external parties who may not understand our business at first.
However, by receiving input from professionals in manual creation, we were able to create manuals from the perspective of organizing tasks and considering the reader, allowing many employees to complete manuals in a short amount of time.
Through this effort, I feel that we have been able to establish a framework for continuously maintaining our manuals in the future.
We are planning to implement the same program next year based on internal evaluations. By going through this cycle, we hope to raise awareness and promote efforts for manual development throughout the company.

The key was how to visualize and incorporate into manuals tasks that require advanced expertise and tasks that are personalized.
If developers write their work manuals based on their own knowledge level, the content may be difficult for readers who are not familiar with the work to understand.
The important thing is not whether "the work they are doing" is written, but whether "the reader can proceed with the work without hesitation while referring to the manual."
First, we supported them by organizing the necessary information from that perspective.
Business manuals cannot be created once and be done with it, so we make sure to input each company's general way of thinking in order to autonomously cycle through improvements.
We have been informed that these efforts will continue into the next fiscal year, and we hope to continue supporting business improvements from our position as a manual creation company.
