――HS: First, could you tell us about the background behind considering MTrans Team?

――KOKUSAI ELECTRIC: As a premise, in 2020, a department overseeing governance for the entire group was newly established within our company. Prior to that, each group company, including those overseas, had their own independent regulations, resulting in inconsistencies in expressions and rules.
Therefore, creating a "unified regulatory system for the group" became a major policy, and it became necessary to translate a large volume of regulatory documents into English. The machine translation tool we were using at the time sometimes struggled to provide sufficient accuracy for specialized expressions used in laws and regulations.
Additionally, there was a limitation on the number of entries that could be registered in the terminology dictionary, which made it difficult to unify vocabulary.

――HS: Was there also a significant translation demand in the technical and intellectual property departments?

――KOKUSAI ELECTRIC: Yes. The technical and intellectual property departments handle a large volume of technical materials and patent-related documents on a daily basis. Each time, relying on external translation companies raised concerns about increasing time and costs.
It was not just about being able to translate temporarily; we wanted to establish a system that could continuously handle translations as an organization, which led us to look for new machine translation software.

――HS: Could you tell us why you chose MTrans Team after comparing multiple translation services?

――KOKUSAI ELECTRIC: We involved not only domestic but also overseas group companies in the comparison and evaluation process.
As a result of the comparison, we determined that MTrans Team excelled in the points that it "demonstrated stable translation accuracy even for legal documents, patent-related documents, and technical documents" and that it "offered greater cost benefits than other tools due to its flat-rate pricing rather than a pay-per-use system."

We valued the fact that stable translation results were obtained even in specialized fields during the comparison and evaluation process. Additionally, the ability to manage glossaries and reflect them in translations was also important.
We anticipated usage across multiple departments and checked the features and operational aspects. We also felt that the flat-rate system, rather than a pay-as-you-go system, was suitable for cross-departmental use. ――HS: What changes have you observed since the implementation?

――KOKUSAI ELECTRIC: As a clear effect, we were able to significantly reduce the time and cost required for translation.
First, we have been able to reduce the amount of translation outsourced externally. Previously, we used to request translation companies for materials such as those for executive meetings, but now the process of translating with MTrans Team and conducting final checks internally has become established.
Since MTrans Team displays multiple translation engines side by side, it is convenient because it makes it easier to judge which translation is optimal depending on the context and purpose.

――HS: How was our support before and after the implementation?

――KOKUSAI ELECTRIC: The response was extremely quick.
Whether by email or phone, it was very helpful that you responded immediately whenever we were in trouble.
For example, there used to be a specification where automatic translation processing would run while typing in Japanese, making it difficult to write sentences, but when we requested this as an improvement, the specification was revised relatively quickly.
Also, the issue where Excel embedded in PowerPoint was not translated was resolved, and you also supported the usage application for overseas offices.
The reassurance that "if we consult, you will take action" was very significant.

Future Developments

――HS: Please tell us about your future requests and outlook.

――KOKUSAI ELECTRIC: Currently, we differentiate the use of MTrans Team and in-house generative AI depending on the nature of the documents. The use of generative AI is progressing for short texts and documents where fine translation accuracy is not required. However, especially for file format translations, the translation accuracy of MTrans Team is excellent and highly valued.
We plan to continue making usage plans according to the purpose and file format in the future.
