Background

Cygames Inc. (hereinafter referred to as Cygames, with no honorifics) has a technical artist team that develops in-house tools necessary for game development. It has been challenging to secure time to maintain manuals while also developing in-house tools, resulting in situations where we cannot provide users with manuals of sufficient quality.

In July 2018, we received a request to improve the manual using Confluence.

Challenges at the Time of Request

Due to insufficient maintenance of the manuals, the internally developed tools are not being utilized effectively within the company.

Cygames has been facing the following challenges regarding manuals.

"There are tools with biased information due to the tools themselves, and even after reading the manual, there are tools whose usage and application cannot be understood."

The manual creation rules are not established, and the structure and notation of the manuals vary depending on the creator.

Due to a busy workload, I cannot secure time to improve the manual myself.

I don't know how to create effective manuals in Confluence.

Creation Process

Writers are stationed at the Cygames office to create manuals while understanding the tools.

In this project, we received a request to "smoothly convey information about tool functions."

One writer is stationed at the client's office to primarily conduct writing, while one writer at Human Science supports the design and writing, facilitating the progress of the project.

We have been able to effectively promote the in-house tools developed while focusing on the original tasks of technical artists.

By directly communicating our requests to the dispatched technical writer, we were able to advance the project while developing internal tools, and we were able to prepare compelling manuals for users in a short period of time.

Additionally, thanks to the videos created to introduce the content of our internal tools, users are now able to understand the content of the tools in a short amount of time.
