On November 17, 2020, we held a webinar on the theme "Shall we review the translation workflow? Utilizing machine translation and post-editing," and many people participated.
In the seminar, we discussed the cost-effectiveness of machine translation, post-editing, and customer case studies.
Here, we will introduce the questions and answers submitted during the seminar.
Q How much translation experience do those who are actually hired as post-editors have? Are you training post-editors for Japanese to English?
A We do not judge solely based on years of experience or achievements. We verify comprehensive language abilities, such as grammar level, through tests and hire those who meet certain standards as post-editors. The same hiring and training methods are applied for English to Japanese as for Japanese to English.
Q Is post-editing necessary after translation for GCP (Google Cloud Platform) as well?
A Rather than focusing on the engine or platform, it is necessary to determine the need for post-editing based on the required quality requirements and levels.
Q Is there a post-editing hearing sheet included in the downloadable materials?
A The hearing sheet is not included, but we have prepared checklists and post-editing example sentences that can be used during the post-editing process. Please make use of them.

Q In the case study, it was up to the second year, but is it possible for costs to scale by continuing into the third, fourth, and fifth years?
After all, if past translations accumulate, I think the learning effect will increase, and costs will scale year by year. What do you think?
A As you mentioned, past translations accumulate, and the learning effect increases, so the cost benefits become even more apparent year by year.
Q Is a multilingual engine essential for implementation?
A It is advisable to determine whether multilingual support is necessary based on the languages of your customers' overseas expansion destinations.
