DeepL Translation has been gaining attention for its high translation accuracy. DeepL is equipped with a terminology function, which has been available for languages other than Japanese, such as English, German, and French. Many people have been eagerly waiting for Japanese support.
Japanese is now available in DeepL's terminology collection as of April 2022.
Using the glossary function allows for proper translation of terms such as product names, service names, and company names. This article will introduce how to use it, important points to note, and the differences between the free and paid versions.
※This article is written based on the content published on the official DeepL website on June 8, 2022.

Notes on DeepL Glossary
Even if you specify a translation in the glossary, it may not be used.
For example, the terms in the red box below have not been translated in the glossary.
According to our research, in English to Japanese translation, 90% of the sentences did not use terms from the glossary, and in Japanese to English translation, 50% did not use terms from the glossary. Even when specifying translations in the glossary, it is necessary to confirm whether they are being used correctly in the translated text.
In addition, our MTrans products are equipped with a highly accurate proprietary terminology function.

Difference between DeepL's free and paid versions
The number of term pairs that can be registered in the glossary (*) differs. The free version allows for 10 pairs, while the paid version allows for 5000 pairs.
※Term pairs are counted as separate pairs when the language direction is different.
There are also differences between the paid plans. In the case of the Starter plan, there is only one glossary.
On the other hand, with the Advanced and Ultimate plans, you can create up to 2000 terms. By switching terminology sets depending on the translated text, you can obtain more accurate translations. Additionally, you can upload and download terminology sets. Specific users can manage terminology sets, download them and distribute them to multiple users. If each user uploads the terminology set, they can use the same terminology set among users.
Glossary function is also available in the free version of DeepL translation.
In addition, if you are considering using the paid version of DeepL, you also have the option of using the service of MTrans for Office, which is equipped with the DeepL translation engine, in addition to applying directly to DeepL.
