On 4/18 at TAUS, we will present "What translation companies can do to alleviate stress during NMT post-editing."

On Thursday, April 18, 2018, at the TAUS Global Content Summit Tokyo, we will be presenting "What Translation Companies Can Do to Alleviate Stress During NMT Post-Editing".

The translation accuracy of Neural Machine Translation (NMT) has significantly improved compared to previous Rule-Based Machine Translation (RBMT) and Statistical Machine Translation (SMT). This technological innovation has continued to raise customer requirements levels for localization in terms of both quality and delivery time.

On the other hand, post-editors who correct machine-translated texts are feeling stressed. One of the issues with NMT is "inconsistent terminology". Therefore, post-editors are paying close attention to using the correct terminology. However, with the recent emergence of customizable MT engines, the issue of terminology may be resolved in the near future.

So, will the style guide errors also be resolved with the customizable MT engine?

In Japanese translation, there are more rules defined in the style guide compared to other languages. Furthermore, the style guide varies depending on the client and product. Therefore, style errors and complex style rules included in NMT translations can be a major source of stress for post-editors in Japan.

The application of terminology in NMT has been discussed in various places, but the issue of style has not been talked about much until now.

In this presentation, we will explain how Human Science has addressed this major challenge and supported the improvement of post-editing productivity.
