Solving Challenges in In-house Manuals: Learning the Effectiveness of TC from 10 Company Case Studies

Event Details

Date and Time
August 26, 2015 (Wednesday) 10:00-11:00
Location
Kogakuin University (Tokyo Shinjuku)
Purpose of the Lecture
Learn about the effectiveness of Technical Communication (TC) when creating manuals in-house.
From case studies of 10 companies that received consulting and in-house support last year,
three challenges faced by manual production sites have been revealed.
We will explain the results of applying the TC framework to each challenge and the ideal form of in-house manuals that can be seen from those results.
This session covers content that can be utilized by any company, based on case studies from 10 companies in various industries and business types.

Lecture Points
The problems that arise when creating manuals in-house can be divided into three main categories: issues with "writing", issues with "process", and issues with "people and organization". To address these problems, it is necessary to apply elements such as "technical writing", "direction", "design", "planning", and "quality management" in a comprehensive manner. By applying this type of TC framework, it is possible to not only address the obvious problems, but also approach potential problems. This article will explain the solutions to the three types of problems, the secondary effects that lead to solving potential problems, and the ideal form of in-house manuals, using specific examples.
