Machine Translation Seminar

As the number of documents to be translated increases, the translation period and cost are being forced to be reduced. In order to respond to such a situation, various manufacturers and translation companies are considering the introduction of machine translation.

Recently, the accuracy of machine translation engines has improved, and by using the most suitable engine for the project, it is now possible to output translations at a practical level even immediately after machine translation. Furthermore, by performing a "pre-edit" process beforehand and preparing the source text suitable for machine translation, further improvement in quality can be expected.

However, there will always be errors that cannot be covered by just selecting the engine or pre-editing. It is necessary to brush up the translated text output by the engine with human hands and raise it to the target quality.

Therefore, in this seminar, we will explain the process of "post-editing" where the translated text output by the engine is polished by human hands and brought up to the target quality. Effectively implementing the final step of post-editing in the machine translation flow is the key to cost reduction and shortening of translation period.

Some common mistakes that often occur during post-editing include the following:

  • ・As a result of blindly making corrections, it took more time than translating manually by hand.
  • ・The correction was made, but it did not meet the desired quality.
  • ・The amount and points of correction may vary depending on the worker.

Without properly understanding the key points and performing post-editing, the benefits of machine translation cannot be fully realized.

In this seminar, we will introduce the operation method of post-editing to achieve both quality maintenance and cost reduction, in addition to the points to consider when correcting translations. Furthermore, through workshops and case studies, you will gain a deeper understanding.

"Machine Translation" - A Growing Market in the World

The global market for machine translation is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23.53% between 2014 and 2019. In Europe, many companies have adopted machine translation and it is recognized as a strong ally for overseas expansion.

As Japanese companies accelerate their overseas expansion, the need to introduce machine translation to efficiently translate documents for overseas audiences is expected to increase.
