Overview of the Lecture

Currently, in machine translation, engines developed in Europe such as Moses are the mainstream.

However, these engines are developed with a focus on European languages, so in languages with significantly different structures such as Japanese and English, it is often difficult to obtain output of sufficient quality.

In order to meet the increasing demand for machine translation between Japanese and English, research on engines that can provide accurate translations even between languages with significantly different structures is being conducted in Japan.

At Human Science Co., Ltd., we have been considering the potential for practical use of such Japanese-developed engines from a neutral standpoint, rather than being a development vendor for engines.

In this presentation, we will introduce several Japanese-developed engines that are not yet widely used in the field of industrial translation.

Based on approximately 8 years of experience utilizing machine translation engines in practical work, we will introduce a comparison of quality between conventional engines and actual project data, and consider the potential for utilizing Japanese-developed engines not only between Japanese and English, but also between English and Asian languages with significantly different language structures.
