[Case Study] Creation of CAD/CAM Software Manuals for Industrial Machinery ~ Translation and Writer Dispatch

  • "The manual is difficult to understand. However, I don't know what to do."
  • "I want to reduce the burden of creating internal manuals."
  • "I want to dispatch a manual writing writer."

Do you have any concerns, such as etc.?

We received a request for CAD/CAM software training manual from a domestic machine tool manufacturer that specializes in machining centers, and we would like to introduce a case where we provided a one-stop service from dispatching a Learning Designer to improving and creating the manual to translation.

Customer's Requests and Challenges

1. Employees want to secure the time they can devote to their original duties.

2. I want to improve the quality of the manual. I would like to receive advice as an expert.

The person who inquired about our website is the person in charge of training and training for customers who have purchased CAD/CAM software in the maintenance and sales team.

All manuals are created internally except for translation.

During the sales period, it was a challenge that the time for support and inquiries decreased due to the original business.

The manual has a volume of 3,000 to 4,000 pages for each product group in Japanese, English, Chinese, and German.

Furthermore, when compared to instruction manuals from other companies in the same industry, I felt that it lacked a sense of luxury and attention to detail.

During the process of considering a complete overhaul of our training materials, online help, and user manuals, we were also considering outsourcing manual creation and dispatching writers.

1. Employees want to secure the time they can devote to their original duties.

During five visits over the course of one month, we delved into the challenges faced by our clients and first proposed the dispatch of a DTP Operator/Writer.

Benefit 1: DTP Operator/Writer Dispatch → Clients can focus on their main business

The original duties of the manual administrator are

  • Support during product implementation
  • Product Seminar
  • Operation and Maintenance

Supporting customers who have purchased products is our main business.

Human Science production staff will work on-site on behalf of our clients, so that they can focus on their core business.

  • Specification Information Collection from Product Development Team
  • Manual Writing
  • Translation Arrangement
  • Schedule Management

From Japanese content creation to coordinating translations into English and other languages, we offer one-stop management.

We have reduced the burden on our customers.

2. I want to improve the quality of the manual. I would like to receive advice as an expert.

In addition to proposing DTP operator/writer dispatch, we also analyze and evaluate current manuals.

We presented improvement proposals and samples, and proceeded with the review of the Japanese manual.

Completely revamp the current manual

As a framework for proposals, there are three points as follows.

  • Complete Revision of Table of Contents Structure
  • Full Rewrite of Japanese Text
  • Full Layout Design Change

Specifically, we analyzed and reported on the following points and provided a sample as a proposed improvement plan.

  • There is a screen capture with a weak reason for existence. It is necessary to clearly state the purpose of posting.
  • Cannot understand the content from the title and lead sentence.
It is necessary to clarify the purpose of "what chapter is explaining" and "what the user should do".
