4th Free Machine Translation Seminar on October 29, 2015 (Thursday)

"The Key to Reducing Costs and Increasing Efficiency in Machine Translation! Post-Editing Seminar" will be held.

Previous Seminar Overview

Machine Translation Seminar

As the number of documents to be translated increases, the translation period and costs are being pressured to be reduced. In response to such circumstances, various manufacturers and translation companies are considering the introduction of machine translation.

Recently, the accuracy of machine translation engines has improved, and by using the most suitable engine for the project, it has become possible to output translations that are practically usable even immediately after machine translation. Furthermore, by performing a preliminary task called 'pre-editing' and preparing the original text suitable for machine translation, further quality improvements can be expected.

However, there will inevitably be errors that cannot be fully covered by engine selection or pre-editing. It is necessary to refine the translations output by the engine through human intervention to elevate them to the target quality.

In this seminar, we will explain the process of "post-editing," where the translations produced by the engine are refined by human hands to elevate them to the target quality. Effectively implementing post-editing, which is the final step in the machine translation workflow, is key to reducing costs and shortening translation periods.

Common pitfalls in post-editing include the following.

  • ・As a result of haphazard revisions, it ended up taking more time than translating manually.
  • - Corrections were made, but the quality did not meet expectations
  • - The amount of corrections and the points to be corrected may vary depending on the worker.

If you do not focus on the key points during post-editing, you will not be able to fully leverage the benefits of machine translation.

In this seminar, we will introduce methods for post-editing to achieve both quality maintenance and cost reduction, in addition to key points for revising translations. Furthermore, you will deepen your understanding through workshops and case studies.

Verification of Post-Editing in Actual Projects

4th MT Seminar_Post-Editing

This is the fourth installment of the machine translation seminar, but the content is designed to be understandable for those who have not participated in the first three installments. While those who attend consecutively will gain a deeper understanding, it is perfectly fine to participate just once.

Machine Translation: A Growing Market Worldwide

The global market for machine translation is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23.53% from 2014 to 2019. In Europe, many companies are adopting machine translation, recognizing it as a strong ally for overseas expansion.

As Japanese companies accelerate their overseas expansion, the demand for introducing machine translation to translate documents for international audiences more efficiently is expected to increase.
