In order to provide our domestic customers with a highly shared security system even overseas, Japanese localization was necessary. Although there was already a Japanese version available overseas, the translation quality was not sufficient, so it was necessary to re-localize it in Japan, and we were approached by our company.
The translation target is the UI, and since the original text contains Prefix/Suffix that should remain in English, it was necessary to understand the technical aspects while translating. Additionally, there was the challenge of creating a clear and consistent translation while organizing without a terminology list or style guide.

- ・Created a small dedicated team consisting of 1 Project Manager and 1 main reviewer, and worked closely with the client on a weekly basis to align translation strategies and progress.
- ・We have created our own configuration file that identifies the areas to be translated/non-translated from a source file in text format with labeled sections, and have provided an accurate estimate by calculating the word count that closely reflects the actual workload.
- ・We proposed the best workflow, taking into account that it is a new translation without a glossary or style guide provided.
First, we created a glossary as part of our translation preparation to ensure consistency in terminology. Specifically, we used the programming language Python to create a script that extracts commonly used terms from source files. The following is a screenshot of the script's execution.
By creating a glossary centered around frequently used nouns and solidifying terminology with our clients, we were able to reduce unnecessary revision costs and provide translations that meet our clients' requests in terms of quality.
・We were able to achieve a unified translation by sharing translation memories on a server when translating a total of 50,000 words with multiple workers, eliminating inappropriate translation variations.
